I discovered this website through imood.com's „recent imood updates“ list.
I love the colours and the dithering on the images! there are so much things to do!

watched La vie est un long fleuve tranquille

its English title is „Life Is a Long Quiet River“.

rewatched Where the Wild Things Are (2009).

the front side of the French DVD case of Where the Wild Things Are, on which is written „MAX ET LES MAXIMONSTRES: IL Y EN UN EN CHACUN DE NOUS“ („MAX AND THE MAXI-MONSTERS: THERE IS ONE IN EACH ONE OF US“) the DVD of Where the Wild Things Are inside its case, on which there is the scene of Max and Carol walking in the desert with that dog in the background that literally appears once and is not ever mentioned again

these two are webcomics.

I discovered STRANGER EONS through johnvertisement.
I think someone (whom I know physically) talked to me about it… I am not sure but I feel some déjà vu with the idea of online friends who live in different time periods.

the way by which I discovered laika's comet is a bit more complicated.
its creator, fourleafisland, is someone I first discovered through a YouTube recommendation of one of his art tutorial videos.
I recently spotted someone with a profile picture that reminded him of his art style among the notes on a deltarune-related post reblogged by okayxairen… and it turned out to be actually him.

I painted again.

a bad scan of a painting of a black dog with hints of dark blue standing on two paws on purple grass in front of a tree with a black trunk and yellow leaves under a red sky a bad picture a painting of a black dog with hints of dark blue standing on two paws on purple grass in front of a tree with a black trunk and yellow leaves under a red sky

I have the will to read:

  • Nineteen Eight-Four by George Orwell
  • Extension du domaine de la lutte by Michel Houellebecq
  • Småtrollen och den stora öbersvämingen by Tove Jansson

this list was previously an offline CSV file that also included The Road by Cormac McCarthy, of which I have read François Hirsch's French language translation La Route.

I have never studied Beowulf at school because French schools only teach about works written in Modern French as translation always adds some layer of interpretation and I do not unfortunately know anyone who has even ever heard of its name. I personally know it for my interest for fantasy, the Middle Ages, mythology and Germanic culture and languages; I believe I first read about it on Wikipedia when I was hyperfixated on Old and Middle English.

on current software as something substractive

in the past, whenever one would want to be able to do something new with their machine, they would have to get the software to do it.

repost of Definitions that don't matter by todepond :

Here are some definitions that don’t matter.

What is a programming language?

It doesn’t matter.

  • Javascript
  • CSS
  • HTML
  • Scratch
  • Assembly
  • Cellpond

I don’t care if any of these are programming languages or not.

What is a cellular automata?

Who cares. This one matters even less. Not even worth a paragraph.

moving on

What is an artificial intelligence?

Let’s all argue and nit-pick about what artificial intelligence is and isn’t.

Actually artificial intelligence isn’t actually intelligence. It’s actually artificial intelligence.

We’re trapped by definitions.

Actually artificial intelligence isn’t actually artificial intelligence. It’s actually artificial artificial intelligence.

We can’t even begin to discuss their negative-

Actually artificial intelligence isn’t actually artificial artificial intelligence. It’s actually fake intelligence.

I don’t care what-

Actually artificial intelligence isn’t actually. It’s actually artificial artificial artificial artificial-

What is artificial life?

Oh no not again-

What is a fractal?

You can keep zooming in, uncovering more and more detail, and you’ll never get to the end, no matter how far you go, there’ll always be one wanker, with a “well-actually”, pulling you up, on some bullshit point, that doesn’t apply, to your current situation, forcing you, to get stuck, before you’ve even-

What is art?

I couldn’t give a flying fu-

What is a woman?

Is a transphobic dog-whistle designed to get you stuck at the start.

What is a definition?

A definition is a tool that we use to express ourselves and communicate

Sometimes the definition is for other people and sometimes it’s just for you

The definition that you use tells us something about YOU

Not what you define

Not everyone wants Git to do merges. Suppose you have made one or two new commits, which we'll call I and J, and your git fetch from origin brings in two new commits that they made since you started, which we will call K and L. That gives you a set of commits that, if you were to draw them, might look like this:

          I--J <-- your-branch
         /
...--G--H <-- main
         K--L <-- origin/main

You can fast-forward your main to match their origin/main:

          I--J <-- your-branch
         /
...--G--H
         K--L <-- main, origin/main

very very very good answer.

why?

After Joel Morris's fake whiteboard being taken as real on here, how about we post our own (real) odd whiteboard diagrams that made sense at the time. Here's one of mine from 2008.

3 rectangular boxes with circles connected by arrows inside. The left one is labelled "mework" , the centre "public net", the right "personal" arrows labelled "me" connect them right to left.
Oval blob outside labelled attacker points into public labelled me, with a reverse arrow saying "notme".
Another oval blob labelled "fake Steve Jobs" has an arrow pointing to the "LinkedIn" circle in mework.
Above is a URL path
/lookup?q=A|&fme=1|&sgn=1
On the left there is a list

Path
fecrawl
strong comected
time data
attributes
edge age
req param
rel=notme
locally-hosted sgn mapper
Wiki:
rel injection
nofollow

so, this would basically make me able to say that someone who claims is me but is not actually me is not me?

like this?

this pal says they're me but that's a lie: <a rel="notme" href="https://liarswebsite.com/">Liar</a>.

Monospace fonts are dear to many of us. Some find them more readable, consistent, and beautiful, than their proportional alternatives. Maybe we're just brainwashed from spending years in the terminal? Or are we hopelessly nostalgic? I'm not sure. But I like them, and that's why I started experimenting with all-monospace Web.

discovered this thanks to ben's like of The Monospace Web.

I am now certain one can make horror out of anything, notably chicken batteries. I learnt the word „vestigial“. cyborgs are not what I expected them to be.

no, it's beautiful!

I feel like I am always focused on one specific thing, thinking about one specific thing or able to work on one specific thing. interacting with my Zettelkasten is what makes me feel the most connected to myself: doing so makes me somewhat conscious of everything I do and am.

I may have discovered this via johnvertisement but I am not sure.

never expected to find an mp3 player on a website for free.
awesome.

repost of Religion has progressed, historically, from: ... by osmarks :

Religion has progressed, historically, from:

  • there is a very large quantity of widely dispersed gods and you don't know about the vast majority of them
  • there are quite a few gods, but a bounded amount
  • there is exactly one god
  • there are exactly zero gods

By extrapolation, we can conclude that the next step is that humanity has negative one god, i.e. is in theological debt and must build a god to continue. This is where the EY-style "aligned singleton" came from. But people are now moving toward "we need everyone to have pocket gods" because they are insane, in line with the pattern. The next step is of course "we need to build gods and put them in everything".

my submission for the February 2025 IndieWeb Carnival, on affirmations

affirmations on information

  • descriptivism is better than prescriptivism unless the latter has a functional purpose and is limited to a restrained set of contexts:
    • people should stop caring about spelling unless there is a reason to do so.
  • undying facts are more valuable than ephemeral ones:
    • people should stop caring about the news.
  • a lot of thoughts that one claims to have come from others:
    • people should think for themselves.
  • abduction is the least relyable inference:
    • people should avoid assuming; and
    • people should not believe in their first guess.

I have once again failed at managing my time; now, I am in a rush to accomplish what I could easily have done during those time spent by mindlessly scrolling.

I hate myself. my self-hatred is too much recurrent.

I should paint more often.

this is a gouache painting.
the wolf-like character in the middle is stolen from inspired by Hundun from the 有兽焉 (yǒu shòu yān) manhua. the bird-like ones around are completely unrelated; they are somewhat inspired by Julia Soboleva's paintings.

I've been watching David Lynch's short film What Did Jack Do? and realised not long before the end that I didn't have the audio on. I assumed that it was a silent film.

reductionism

I have a Zettelkasten.
in its §2025-01-08 14:04 entry, I have written the following:

society's specialisation,
programming's separation of concerns
linguistic isolativeness,
and personal knowledge management's atomiticity
are different concepts regarding one thing:
having each member of a system
have the smallest possible quantity
of functions so that it can be
as reused as possible.

isn't it funny how often one chooses a name with great care, despite this name having no future impact?

apparently, anything can be a euphemism.

„I just walked my dogs… if you know what I mean.“
oh my, that is actually true.

an unexpected pro in analog

something I like about analog is that if my desk gets messy, I cannot ignore it; I have to do something about it.
this is something that never happens with virtual interfaces because of the lack of disgust or physical limitation in those shiny and ageless icons.
